The pignada and its paths
Locals fondly call pignada the maritime pine forest that covers nearly the whole department. The cycle paths, smooth and shaded, run through the plots for tens of kilometres. A bike date between pines and ferns always carries something gentle: filtered sunlight, the scent of resin, silence broken only by cicadas. A pause by a lake is enough to leave a lasting memory.
The Huchet stream
Starting from Léon, the Huchet stream flows down to the ocean through almost Amazonian vegetation. In a flat-bottomed boat guided by a boatman, you glide under bald cypress trees and water lilies. A nature date apart, where you hear only the lapping water and the guide’s voice. At the end, the wild beach where the stream meets the ocean fully rewards the trip.
Léon and the inland lakes
On the shore of Lake Léon, you can hire a canoe, nap on a grassy beach, pedal on to a neighbouring village. The Landes are also this softness: calm waters, small harbours and always the forest in the background. On Lyad, local singles share their weekend routes; it is up to you to find someone to follow the cycle paths with.
